BCV wins Award for Senior Housing Competition in Marin County

BCV Architects was awarded honorable mention for its entry in the CALIFORNIA SENIOR HOUSING DESIGN COMPETITION sponsored by two San Francisco Bay Area housing non-profits, Suburban Alternatives Land Trust (SALT) and Northbay Family Homes (NFH). The competition included 63 entries from all over the world. Site planning and housing designs must demonstrate: 1) innovative, sustainable solutions that can also be applied to meet future housing needs; 2) a zero net energy goal; and 3) other benefits including job creation, carbon reduction, cost reduction and opportunities for local food production/agriculture. BCV’s design integrates a working olive orchard with detached, accessible dwelling units which were developed with innovative sustainable design strategies that minimize grading and maximize vistas and exposure to the sun. To encourage activity and community, two communal barns are located at each end of the project: A Summer Barn with communal garden, and a Winter Barn with communal spa and exercise room.
